I have attended Pastor Text Study over the past four years as a seminarian. I was initially encouraged to join the text study group in the conference where I lived, Boulder/Broomfield. The assistant to the bishop for candidacy at the time secured an invitation for me to start attending the B/B Pastor's Text Study in 2014. The text study is a sacred place. It is a place where pastors have the opportunity to talk openly about Scripture. I must respect the trust placed in me and hold fast to a high level of confidentiality.
I was able to attend the Boulder/Broomfield Pastor's Text study from 2014 until May of 2017. On June 1, 2017, I started my pastoral internship in Littleton CO and was able to attend the South Metro Conference text study held each Thursday. The text study was held at the church where I was an intern, so attendance was rather easy and a weekly event with a few exceptions. It is a privilege to be able to glean the knowledge and experience of many pastors with many years and sometimes decades of experience. I spoke up when I felt I had particular insight and was always treated with courtesy and respect. On June 1, 2018, I became a member of the staff at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Boulder as the Director of Congregational Care. I preached on June 17, 2018 and am scheduled to preach many more times at Grace Lutheran and Mount Calvary through July into August. I am happy to say I have been invited to re-join the Boulder/Broomfield conference text study. I look forward to seeing many colleagues and friends again.
